2015-10-13 · In high pressure boiler, by using the sodium sulphite, the sulphite can break down to give hydrogen sulphide which can attack steel brass and copper. If chloride is found too much in your boiler water what will you do ? Blow down frequently; Reduce the boiler load to minimum. If highly contaminant shut down completely and wash out.

Boiler-safe level of chlorides (and other compounds) …

Does anyone know if there's a generally safe level of chlorides in water that shouldn't cause corrosion in metals? I'm particularly interested in stainless steel, being my boiler is that material (not sure what type of stainless steel). I know I've seen here and elsewhere that below 200-250ppm sulphates is generally safe for stainless steel, but I've not seen anything related to chlorides.

Boiler Water Tests | Viking Water Technology, Inc.

The chloride test is used (often in conjunction with the conductivity test) to regulate boiler blowdown. Blowdown is necessary to keep boiler solids (both dissolved and precipitated) from building up to the level where they might cause scale and carryover. Boiler water chlorides limits are set on the ideas that:

The first priority is to minimize the amount of make-up water.
